JEE Main Eligibility 2018JEE Main Eligibility 2018 has been published by the CBSE Board. It is the main exam conducting authority which organizes Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main). This exam is national level examination conducts to provide admissions in undergraduate engineering courses in IITs, NITs and IIITs. It is conducted in two modes which are online (computer based mode) and offline (pen and paper based mode). Before filling the application form candidates must have satisfied themselves with the eligibility criteria that they are eligible for the paper which they are applying for. Below, we have mentioned complete details about JEE Main 2018 Eligibility Criteria to appear in the examination. Candidates should full fill the given eligibility:

Basic Eligibility:

  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian Citizen.
  • NRIs, PIOs, OCIs & Foreign national candidates can also apply.
  • Number of Attempts: Candidates can apply for JEE Main exam only three times.
  • Aadhaar Card is compulsory to apply for this exam.

Requirement of “Aadhar Card”:

  • All the Indian citizen candidates should possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main)–2018, the candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data.
  • In case, these particulars do not match, the candidates will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main)–2018. Therefore, the candidates are advised to ensure that their AADHAAR card has correct details of their name, date of birth & gender as per school records.
  • If there is some mismatch in these details, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in AADHAAR data or school records, as the case may be.
  • Candidates from Meghalaya, J & K and Assam are excluded from this provision. These candidates have to enter their passport number, bank account number, ration card number or any other valid Govt. identity number to get examination center in these states only.

Age Criteria:

  • Age Limit: Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st October, 1993 (for general and OBC candidate) are eligible to apply.
  • Relaxation: If candidates belonging to a reserved category like SC, ST and PwD category, then the date of birth falls on or after 1st October, 1988 are eligible for JEE main application.
  • Candidates note down that date of birth mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University will be considered only for appearing in the exam.

No. of Attempts & Age limit for the states of Madhya Pradesh & Odisha:

Since the states of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system from the year 2014. The age limit, for admission in colleges of these states which were earlier admitting candidates based on their state level examinations, will be as per their past practice only. The number of attempts in such cases will also remain same as per their past practice. This will however be obviously not applicable for admission to IITs/NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.

Qualification Criteria:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidates must qualify their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • Subjects: Candidates must have to take minimum 5 subjects in 12th/equivalent examination. Candidates appearing for JEE Main 2018 must have passed class 12th with Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.
  • Passing Marks: There is no prescribed percentage to appear in the examination. Candidates having passing marks can also apply.
  • Appearing Candidates: If a candidate appears in 12th or equivalent class in 2018 are also eligible for JEE Main 2018.
  • NIOS candidates can also apply for this exam.
  • Diploma Holders: To appear in JEE Advanced, a diploma holder can apply in JEE Main 2018. But their rank & score in JEE Main will not be considered for admission in NITs & CFTIs.
  • No board marks will be taken into account for calculating JEE Main score from the year 2017 onwards.

Passing Year Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates who have passed 12th class or equivalent exam in 2016 or 2017 (not before 2016) are eligible to apply for this exam.
  • If candidates have appeared in a 12th or equivalent exam in 2015 but did not cleared in 2015, but passed in 2016 are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have passed 12th exams in 2015 or before or appearing in 2019 or later exams are not eligible to apply for JEE Main 2018.
  • If candidates qualify 12th exam in 2017 & appear for improvement in 2018 for one or few subjects, then top 20 percentile cut-off for 2017 will be considered.
  • However, if a candidate writes all the subjects in 2018, then the best of the two performances will be considered.
  • Candidates also note down that for the percentile system, total marks obtained in all the five subjects of mark sheet are required for JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

Eligibility for Admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs:

  • Minimum Marks: For admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, candidates should secure minimum 75% marks (65% for SC/ST students) in the qualifying examination or must be in top 20 percentile in class 12th examination conducted by respective boards.
